“I am surprised by the fact that representatives of the s- called unrecognized republics had not been invited to the forum in Vilnius. It means that the action organizers seem not to know regional realities or to ignore them, because participation of the unrecognized objects is necessary for acquaintance with their positions, and developing of integral vision of regional situation,” Chairman of Nagorno Karabakh Permanent Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Relations Vagram Atanesyan stated speaking with REGNUM. The MP negatively evaluated the forum’s agenda itself: “NATO role in unfreezing frozen conflicts.”
“What does ‘defreezing’ mean, if not a conflict recommencement? Besides that, optimal format of the OSCE Minsk Group on Nagorno Karabakh Conflict Settlement exists, and I consider any external interference to be inexpedient and dangerous,” Vagram Atanesyan stressed at that. The MP pointed out that Nagorno Karabakh had always advocated and continued to advocate integration into European processes. For that purpose it one-sidedly took number of measures, aimed at society’s democratization and bringing republican legal field in correspondence with European standards. “I believe that Europeans keep an eye on us and appreciate Nagorno Karabakh’s striving for development of democratic institutions,” the deputy said. At the same time, Vagram Atanesyan stressed that having an unsettled conflict, Azerbaijan may not be integrated into European institutions, and the latter should not affiliate country, which threatens region."
